The few settings that control the behaviour of your JoiceKit together with the address book that it shows in the form of a carousel on the TV screen are controlled from a web site. You can access this web site at any time, from wherever you are in order to make necessary modifications. Settings are automatically downloaded to the box, usually as soon as they are made. Consequently, you should be able to administrate a JoiceKit from a remote location. In addition to settings and address book, the web site provides a way to quickly assess the well-functioning of a JoiceKit so that you will be able to diagnose common problems from the comfort of your computer. There are two different types of web interfaces: the richer one is meant for controlling the settings of JoiceKit users, i.e. elderly relatives, while the simpler one is meant to controlling the settings for PC users. JoiceKit users have a yellow background, PC users have a blue-grey background, so that it should always be easy to make the difference and know which type of user you are handling. Typically, there are very few settings for PC users and you will change these very seldom. There are more settings for JoiceKit users, so you are likely to modify these a bit more often. This document gives an overview of what settings are available for JoiceKit users and how to use the web site. In a number of screenshots, red rectangles and red circles are used to highlight zones of interest on the screen. These focus zones are not part of the web site, they are part of the manual. At any time, when using the web site, hoovering with your mouse on top of fields and buttons will provide you with contextual help. Logging inYou can access the settings on the web site at all times and from all computers with access to Internet and a browser, at the following address: https://settings.myjoice.com/. You will be welcomed by the following screen (picture below). Enter your username (usually in the form <firstname>.<lastname>, with only English characters) and your web password. Note that names and password are case sensitive! Click on the "login" arrow to the right.
Once you have
logged into the site, you will be kept logged in from the computer and
browser that you have used for a long period of time. This means that you will have to pay
particular attention to logging off the site if you wanted to access
and modify the settings from an unsecure machine, such as from another
place, a computer you borrow or an Internet café.
The
first time you log in onto the site, you might be requested to change
the temporary password that was sent to you to something more sensible
and something that you might remember better.
A strong password is a password that meets the following guidelines. While it is not always possible to follow all these rules, try to apply them to your best in order to increase security.
It is never a good idea to use the same password for all sites and computers that you use, or for groups of such. If you have a hard time remembering all your passwords, consider taking notes or storing them using software like password safe, perhaps in combination with a USB memory stick or similar.
First Time WizardThe first time you log in, you will automatically run through a setup wizard. This wizard can be accessed later on if necessary. The wizard will ask you for a small number of personal details.
Main screenApart from the first time, whenever you log into the site, you will arrive at the main screen. This screen is the hub of all settings that are available for Joice user accounts. You can re-run the first-time wizard at any time by choosing the icon with a star, if you wish to.
ProfileIn the profile section of the site, you can change details for the Joice account, including how other JoiceKit or PC users will be able to contact that person and a number of security settings. The profile and picture details found at the profile page are the same as the first-time wizard and are already set if you have done the first-time wizard.Inbound call settingsIn this section, you can describe how other JoiceKit users that have added the JoiceKit user whom you are administrating as a contact will be able to call. Currently, you should probably let it as it is. If you wished to modify those settings, a description is provided in the softphone web manual.Security settingsIn this section, you can administrate security settings. You can hide a JoiceKit user from searches so that other users of the Joice system will not be able to search this user to add him/her to their contacts. Note that they will still be able to add the JoiceKit user that you are administrating if they know his/her exact user name.Administrating ContactsIn the contacts section of the site, you can add and remove contacts to a JoiceKit user account. These settings are automatically forwarded to the JoiceKit being administered, sometimes with a slight delay. Be sure to wait at least one hour before contacting support if you encountered problems.
Apart
from a few details such as an address and a name, contacts in the
Joice account are particular in the sense that they are not represented
by a single or loose set of telephone numbers, rather they are
represented by a chain of telephone numbers and Internet
softphone addresses. This chain is called the escalation list and can be thought of as a call forwarding chain. The idea
is that when trying to contact a given person, a JoiceKit will first
try to contact the person at a known Internet softphone address (to
benefit from video facilities, among other things) but will then
contact a number of other telephone numbers, in order, to try getting
in touch with that person. The system takes care of all redirections
itself, for maximum user experience.
In addition to this chain of calls, you can tag numbers with a so-called type to make them more recognisable. Types are free-form text, which will enable you to describe numbers by their description and location, such as summerhouse or cottage.
Modifying ContactsYou can at all time modify contacts by clicking on the pen icon that shows up to the right of their picture when hoovering with the mouse. Similarly to when you add contacts, there are two types of contacts that you should consider and editing them is slightly different:
External users
Support and SettingsThe last part of the site is about assessing the well-functioning of the JoiceKit from a remote location and modifying a number of settings that will dictate the behaviour of a box. The main page presents a check up of the JoiceKit, establishing how well its different components and peripherals are working.
At the bottom of the main support page, there are two links from which you can access the Web pages where you can modify the behaviour of a box. Since you might have several boxes coupled to a given account, some settings are per-box settings, while other are valid for all your boxes and depend only on your account.
